This year, LGBT History Month – celebrated in February every year – will look at Citizenship, PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) and Law as it marks the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of male homosexuality in England and Wales.
The overall aim of LGBT History month is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public.
This is done by:

  • Increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community;
  • Raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT community;
  • Working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT communities; and
  • Promoting the welfare of LGBT people, by ensuring that the education system recognises and enables LGBT people to achieve their full potential, so they contribute fully to society and lead fulfilled lives, thus benefiting society as a whole.

Touchstone is committed to eradicating homophobia, bi-phobia and Transphobia in all its forms and we work hard to build the awareness of our staff and service users so that we can make our space here at Touchstone, the safest it can be for everyone.
Throughout February this year, Touchstone will be running a series of roadshows for all our teams, led by our own allies programme members – Pink Pals.
Pink Pals will talk to colleagues about LGBT History Month, why we have it and to talk to staff about workplace wellbeing and how equality and diversity contributes to this.
Finally, we are planning an LGBT-focused Leadership Masterclass to be held at the end of the month with a Panel of invited speakers – so watch this space.
