LGBT History Month is celebrated in February in the UK, but the work to challenge homophobia, biphobia and transphobia continues throughout the year.

The overall aim of LGBT History month is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public.
This is done by:

  • Increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community;
  • Raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT community;
  • Working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT communities; and
  • Promoting the welfare of LGBT people, by ensuring that the education system recognises and enables LGBT people to achieve their full potential, so they contribute fully to society and lead fulfilled lives, thus benefiting society as a whole.

This year, the theme of LGBT History Month will be Religion, Belief and Philosophy and Touchstone’s Pink Pals (our staff LGBT Allies scheme) will be hosting an all day celebration event on Saturday 27th February in partnership with Leeds City Museums, Mesmac and Angel of Youth to both raise awareness of this important day in the LGBT(Q) calendar but also to trigger debate about the importance (or not) of faith in our various communities, including LGBT communities.
Titled “#Love has no Religion”, the day will focus on guest LGBT speakers- of faith and without- as well as offering a range of stalls, food and other activities throughout the day.
Please come along and celebrate all that is LGBT fabulous in Leeds!
