Touchstone Outreach & Prevention Service (TOPS) run weekly drop-in centres to support people who are street-drinking in the Harehills Area. TOPS can provide people who need it with a warm safe space, food, and support where needed.
How the Project Started
TOPS was developed out of a multi-agency working group looking at issues and concerns in Harehills. This centred on the issue of problem street drinking.
Touchstone was asked to explore options to support people. As a result, Touchstone developed a pilot project to engage with people in the area who were drinking locally. This was agreed with the multi-agency group to deliver outreach to engage potential support around alcohol dependency. From there, weekly outreach sessions took place involving engagement with the street drinkers in the Harehills area to develop trust and establish positive relationships while offering immediate support where possible.
Following the success of the outreach work and drop in in Harehills, Touchstone has continued to receive funding until April 2025.
