Run by Judith Weymont. A half day workshop to gain confidence in speaking English. Learn how to interview each other and be interviewed. Enjoy using sound recordings to hear your own voice and speak in public with a small group of other people. No pressure and it’s FUN.

Thursday 21st June – Walk of Solidarity with Garforth Refugee Group
Start Time: 09:30 in St Benedict’s RC Church, LS25 1PX car park (near Garforth Train Station) Finish time: 3.30 – 4pm in City Centre
An 11 mile symbolic walk in solidarity with asylum seekers and refugees across the world. Walk will leave from St. Benedict’s R.C. church (Garforth), calling at St. Teresa’s R.C. church, St. Vincent’s café, Home Office in Kirkstall and finish at English Conversation club at Mill Hill Chapel. All are welcome.

Friday 22 June – Sounds of Sanctuary: Unity – Solidarity – Freedom

A family friendly event from Manuel Bravo & Refugee Council. The event is FREE TO ATTEND and there will be FREE FOOD! Everyone is welcome. There will also be music and creative workshops, music and other performances and a multilingual open mic. 4-6pm: Music and creative workshops. 6-7pm: Food and stories from Manuel Bravo Project and Refugee Council. 7pm onwards: Live music including performances by Hassan Erraji and Friends and Harmony Choir. The event is family friendly and entertainment and activities will be in both the main room and the alcohol free room.

Saturday 23rd June – Shared Art for Refugee Week

Supported by artist Larna Campbell. Drop in 11am-4pm. Come and join in creating art in the central hall of the museum with an artist, as part of Refugee Week. We will use birds, the Andy Holden exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery and the large floor map of Leeds as inspiration for the art. Everyone welcome. Suitable for adults (young children welcome).

Sunday 24 June – “Human Flow” film screening
2pm – The Hyde Park Picture House, 73 Brudenell Road, Leeds, LS6 1JD
Human Flow, an epic film journey from renowned artist Ai Weiwei, gives a powerful visual expression to this massive human migration. Captured over the course of an eventful year in 23 countries, the film reveals both the staggering scale of the refugee crisis and its profoundly personal human impact. The film will be followed by a panel discussion. It will be a pay-as-you-feel event.
