This blog is about pronouns, and it will include a game to practice using they/them pronouns.  You can read our Pronouns 101 blog here to find out more about pronouns.

Example of she/her pronouns:

I went to see a horror film with Sarah. She jumped at all the scary bits so it’s a good job I went with her.  After the film, Sarah drove us home in her car and bought herself a pizza for dinner.

Example of they/them pronouns:

I went to see a horror film with Sam. They jumped at all the scary bits so it’s a good job I went with them.  After the film, Sam drove us home in their car and bought themself a pizza for dinner.

Now it’s your turn!

Pair up with someone else or practice on your own:

Talk about someone in your life using only they/them pronouns and without using their name.  Then swap if you are in a pair and the other person will talk about someone in their life.

Afterwards, discuss with your partner who each of you were talking about.  What was going through your mind as you listened to them talking?  How did you feel when you found out who they were talking about?
