Touchstone has been successful in securing funding from Leeds City Council Public Health to run the BME type-2 diabetes project, Sadee Smile, for another two years. This will build on the successes of our Sadee Smile pilot,. We will continue to work with Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust to deliver this project.
Touchstone’s multi- lingual team of staff will deliver a series of structured 8 week education programmes, which we have co-developed specifically to enable people from BME communities to better manage their long term condition. .
Courses will be made up of interactive and immersive sessions, including hands on cook and eat sessions. The course content will be accessible and has been developed in partnership with a Senior Dietician. Delivery will be supported by Peer Champions, and staff/volunteers with community language skills.
Individuals attending the course will benefit from an increase in knowledge, understanding, and confidence with managing their diabetes.
To find out more about the last course you can read the evaluation report here: https://www.touchstonesupport.org.uk/2016/08/evaluation-of-community-diabetes-course/
We will be publicising the new courses in September/October so keep your eyes on our website and twitter for more information soon!
